Diminish Wrinkles Caused
By Facial Expressions

BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin are FDA-approved injectables containing botulinum toxin type A. When injected into specific muscles, they block nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, effectively relaxing the targeted area. By inhibiting muscle activity, these neurotoxins diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, particularly those formed by repeated facial expressions, such as forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet.

  • Neck bands (platysma bands)

How Does Botox, Dysport, And Xeomin Work?

Dynamic wrinkles form due to repetitive muscle contractions during facial expressions, such as laughing, squinting, and frowning. Over time, the skin creases caused by expressions become permanent. BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin work by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contraction. By temporarily paralyzing targeted muscles, these neurotoxins prevent them from contracting, thus smoothing out the associated wrinkles. This halts the continuous folding of the skin, allowing it to relax and diminish the appearance of creases, resulting in a more youthful appearance. We offer all neuromodulators at our Tennessee and Mississippi locations

Botox, Dysport, And Xeomin: What’s The Difference?

BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin share the same active ingredient: botulinum toxin type A. They have similar mechanisms of action and results. However, slight differences in formulation and protein composition lead to slightly different outcomes. Your injector can recommend the most suitable option based on your individual needs and desired outcomes.

BOTOX

BOTOX (onabotulinumtoxinA) is one of the most well-known and widely used injectables for cosmetic purposes. It received FDA approval in 2002 for the treatment of forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet, making it a household name within this category of injectables. Its formulation includes additional proteins, which can reduce the risk of diffusion from the injection site, making it suitable for precise treatments. BOTOX is often preferred for targeting smaller facial areas with intricate muscle structures, such as around the eyes.

Dysport

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) contains fewer accessory proteins compared to BOTOX. This may result in a faster onset of action and potentially longer-lasting effects for some individuals. Dysport also tends to spread more easily from the injection site, making it particularly suitable for treating larger areas like the forehead. Dysport is FDA-approved to treat moderate to severe glabellar lines, also known as frown lines, between the eyebrows.

Xeomin

Unlike BOTOX and Dysport, Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA ) is formulated without any accessory proteins. This pure form of botulinum toxin type A may reduce the risk of antibody formation and resistance over time. As such, patients can continue using Xeomin for years without reduced efficacy. This property also makes Xeomin suitable for patients who may have developed a tolerance to other neuromodulators. However, because it lacks these proteins, Xeomin may have a slower onset of action compared to its counterparts.

Can BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin be used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)?

Yes, BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin are FDA-approved for treating hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, in the underarms, palms, and feet. By blocking the release of acetylcholine, these neurotoxins temporarily paralyze the sweat glands and reduce excessive sweating. The results typically last several months, following which the treatment must be repeated.

How painful is the injection process for BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin?

The injection process for BOTOX, Dysport, and Xeomin is generally well-tolerated and causes minimal discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a slight pinching or stinging that lasts only briefly. Our injectors can also apply a topical numbing cream or ice pack to the treatment area beforehand to further minimize discomfort.
