Eyelashes protect the eyes from sunshine, wind, foreign bodies, and perspiration. They also have a cosmetic purpose, as long eyelashes have been long considered a sign of femininity and beauty.
People with hypotrichosis have eyelashes that are shorter, thinner and less full than average. But with Latisse treatment, which is available at Advanced Dermatology & Skin Cancer Associates in Memphis, thicker lashes can be achieved.
Same-day Latisse Treatment appointments are available at our three Memphis-area locations. Request your Latisse Treatment appointment online or call 901-759-2322.
What is Latisse?
Latisse is an FDA approved prescription drug that is applied to the base of eyelashes to generate longer lashes. Latisse keeps hairs in the growth phase, which produces longer, darker and thicker eyelashes.
The lash growing benefits of Latisse were discovered by accident, when researchers discovered that its main ingredient, bimatopost, was causing consistent eyelash growth in glaucoma patients being treated with the drug Lumigan. Latisse is a lower concentration of that drug.
Although there are ways to purchase this product without a doctor’s consultation and prescription, it is recommended that you see a professional at Advanced Dermatology to discuss the pros and cons of Latisse.
How Does Latisse Treatment Work?
Latisse is a clear liquid that is applied once daily in the evening or as instructed. It is applied only to your top eyelid at the base of your lashes, not the lower lash area. Contact lenses should be removed prior to applying Latisse.
Patients should expect to see a difference in eyelash length and thickness by around week four and full results by week 16. While eyelash growth will last as long as you use the medicine, the effect is not permanent. Once you stop using Latisse, your eyelashes will return to their previous state. Dr. Purvisha Patel has posted additional infomation about Latisse in her blog.
